Talk Therapy
Talk therapy, also known as psychotherapy, is a therapeutic approach where individuals discuss their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with a trained therapist. The goal is to help clients understand and manage their mental health concerns, develop coping strategies, and work through emotional or psychological difficulties. It fosters a safe, supportive environment for personal growth and healing.
Solution-Focused Therapy
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) is a brief, goal-oriented therapeutic approach that focuses on a client’s present and future circumstances rather than past issues. It emphasizes identifying and building on the client’s strengths and resources to find solutions to their problems. The therapist collaborates with the client to set specific, achievable goals, and encourages progress by highlighting positive changes and successes. SFT is pragmatic, concentrating on what works to move the client toward their desired outcomes.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, time-limited form of psychotherapy that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It aims to help individuals identify and challenge negative or distorted thinking patterns that contribute to emotional distress and unhealthy behaviors. By replacing these thoughts with more realistic and positive ones, CBT helps clients develop healthier coping strategies and behavior patterns. It is effective for treating a wide range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and stress, and focuses on practical solutions to current problems.
Whether you come to me with anxiety, depression, OCD, drug and alcohol addiction, trauma and PTSD, a behavioral disorder, impulse control, relationship dependency issues, or another concern, I will work with you to create an achievable plan. We will make and set goals, so that we can positively impact your mental health as an individual. There’s always room for personal growth, and I’m here to support my clients with all the capability I have.
My goal is to offer a safe, comfortable, and judgement-free environment where I can provide therapeutic practices to empathize, sympathize and communicate with my clients to alleviate mental health concerns and improve their daily life.
I aim to listen, communicate effectively, and act with intention to provide my clients with supportive interactions that will aid in positive growth.

More About Emma Florence, Owner of New Focus Counseling
My passion for Mental Health began at a very young age. Growing up I was a competitive Gymnast for 15 years, which resulted in 10 Orthopedic surgeries and being diagnosed with an Autoimmune Disease. My mental health was severely affected due to no longer being able to participate in a sport that was my lifelong passion and love. The medical trauma I endured motivated me to become more in tune with my mind, body and health.
My mantra is, “With pain, comes strength.” During my times of healing and pain, I grew mentally stronger each day with the support of counseling, friends, family and practicing Art. I knew that if I could get through that, I could get through anything, which encouraged me to pursue my passion of helping others with their mental struggles.
I graduated from Southwestern University in 2016 with a BFA in Studio Arts and Psychology, then from National University in 2024 with a Master of Science in Childhood and Adolescent Developmental Psychology. I hope to begin my Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology with a focus in Health Psychology, in the next few years.
Throughout my Masters program I worked for a Mental Health facility with patients who struggled with anxiety, depression, drug and alcohol addictions, relationship and marital issues, bipolar disorder, and more.
In the past I have been a K-5th Grade Art Teacher, Lead Teacher for the Gifted and Talented Program, and a Gymnastics Coach of 10+ years.
My joy in life comes from helping others, making connections, interacting with others, teaching and learning, every single day. Therefore, it would be my honor to help my future clients to overcome their daily struggles.
